On the Momentous Anti-Imperialist Storm in Afghanistan
The happy events which are occurring in Afghanistan are a positive example to all those who aspire to live in a world of peace and friendship based on respect for the sovereign equality of every nation.
For 20 years the aggression and brutal political despotism inflicted on Afghanistan by U.S. imperialism have aroused the opposition of the American people as well as peoples throughout the world. For 20 years the U.S. government – in defiance of international public opinion as well as international law and and the accepted principles of sovereign equality amongst nations, non-intervention and non-interference in the international affairs of other countries – has occupied Afghanistan and forced the people live under the guns of an old-style colonial system.
Not only did the U.S.-NATO invasion weigh on the Afghan people whose country was occupied and whose sovereignty and dignity were trampled underfoot, but it also enriched U.S. imperialism's network of military bases at a strategically important military frontier and worsened the danger and reality of first strike war against other sovereign states by the international outlaws in Washington.
In Afghanistan, a new degree of the savageness of the bi-partisan imperialist system of enslavement, plunder and violence was revealed for all to see. The goals of the war included the imposition of a satellite regime throughout the country and the destruction of the Afghan national liberation movement.
But under the terrorism of U.S. military rule and all its parasitic and dissolute ideological, political and economic aspects, the people of Afghanistan have refused to bend their knee. Despite this savagery of the U.S.-NATO methods and facing the biggest military power in history, they have continued along the path of their national liberation revolution, carrying out an all-sided campaign which has now restored their national sovereignty and independence and collective right to determine for themselves their economic and political system.
In Afghanistan, the people have bitterly defeated the aggression of U.S. imperialism. The recent victory of the people of Afghanistan in their struggle to force the retreat of all U.S.-NATO forces from their land deprives imperialism of a base of operations, accelerates and inspires the struggles of the peoples of all countries and brings us closer to the day when imperialism will be overthrown on a world-scale and the peoples will be free of exploitation and war.
The Workers Party, USA, not only supports the struggle of our sisters and brothers in Afghanistan but thanks them, from the bottom of our hearts, for their enormous contribution to the struggle of all humanity against the capitalist colonial system and for progress and liberation.
The Workers Party, USA, stands for the overthrow of all the imperialist social relations which enslave nations and try to force them to go back to colonial servitude. The cause of the working class is only served by the unity of the two principal motive forces of the present era – the working class movement for emancipation and the national liberation movements of the oppressed nations and peoples. It is only this common front – the unity of the workers of all countries and the strategic alliance between the working class movement and the national liberation struggles of the oppressed nations – which will defeat imperialism and create conditions for the triumph and progress of humankind.
